Ceramics Classes
Clayspace offers classes and workshops with top quality instruction in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Classes & workshops are taught by resident ceramic artists with fine arts degrees and teaching experience. They are highly skilled and can offer expert technical assistance as well as creative inspiration.
Clayspace is a unique venue for any occasion. We offer workshops for casual parties and outings with friends and family as well as businesses, classes, girl scout troops or other groups wanting more formal instruction. We can accomodate groups of up to 30 people and provide project ideas and instruction to meet any special interests or goals your group might have. You can schedule a private workshop or party with instruction and materials for $40 per adult, $25 per child under 16. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, inviting social interaction and creativity.

Platters to Planters - 7 weeks
Spring session: March 1- April 12
Mondays 6:30- 8:30 pm
Instructed by clayspace artist Emily Hutton, this seven week class will focus on creating functional and decorative ceramic pieces using basic handbuilding techniques. The class will also cover surface decoration and glazing, and students will have an opportunity to use the potter’s wheel. $195 per student includes open studio time through April 26.
Introductory potter's wheel class- 7 weeks
Spring session: 3/2/10 - 4/14/10
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 pm
Taught by clayspace resident artist Todd Hickerson, the introductory classes are structured and cover basic throwing and glazing techniques. Class time includes informal discussions, demonstrations and hands on instruction. Cost is $195 per person. Registration includes open studio time between classes to practice new skills and each session concludes with a student gallery show, potluck party and raku firing.
Intermediate potter's wheel class - 7 weeks
Spring session: 3/3/10 - 4/14/10
Wednesdays 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The intermediate class offers excellent instruction by resident artist Todd Hickerson. Classes are small, ensuring a high level of personal instruction in a comfortable learning environment. Class time includes informal discussions and demonstrations as well as hands on instruction. Students are encouraged and supported in exploring their interests.
$195 per person includes open studio time between classes during the session, allowing everyone to proceed at their own pace. The class concludes with a student gallery show, raku firing and potluck party.

Slab building- 7 weeks

Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm

This new seven week handbuilding class instructed by clayspace artist Todd Hickerson will offer students the opportunity to construct boxes, platters, and large vessels with clay slabs. The class will also focus on surface decoration using texture and colored slips.
