classes and workshops
Clayspace offers classes and workshops with ceramic artists in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Our instructors offer expert technical assistance as well as creative inspiration. Evening classes meet weekly from 6:30-9:00 for eight weeks. Registration is $240 per person and includes open studio time during the session and a student gallery show at the end of each session with a pot luck party and raku firing. Clayspace workshops are always fun. You can make something wonderful in just one visit even if you have never worked with clay. We would love to add more classes! Friday, May 31
Everyone is welcome! Guests may purchase and glaze a handmade piece of pottery for $40 and watch as it’s fired in our raku kiln by clayspace artist Todd Hickerson. The kiln is heated to 1900 degrees and opened to expose the red hot pottery inside. The work is removed with tongs and placed in metal cans filled with combustible material which is ignited by the hot work. The cans are covered and the fire reacts with the glaze to create iridescent and metallic effects on the pottery. Wiping off the ashes from the fire reveals flashes of brilliance and metallic shine. Guests can take their work home with them. While you wait for your masterpiece to come out of the kiln you can relax and enjoy the gallery show Painting with Fire featuring work by ceramic artist Tom Radca.
