Ceramics Classes
Clayspace offers classes and workshops with top quality instruction in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Classes & workshops are taught by resident ceramic artists with fine arts degrees and teaching experience. They are highly skilled and can offer expert technical assistance as well as creative inspiration.
Clayspace is a unique venue for any occasion. We offer workshops for casual parties and outings with friends and family as well as businesses, classes, girl scout troops or other groups wanting more formal instruction. We can accomodate groups of up to 30 people and provide project ideas and instruction to meet any special interests or goals your group might have. You can schedule a private workshop or party with instruction and materials for $40 per adult, $25 per child under 16. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, inviting social interaction and creativity.

Wednesdays 3:30-5:30
July 21- August 18
Our first afternoon throwing class will cover basic throwing techniques and trimming, surface decoration using texture and colored slips, firing, and glazing. $150 per person includes 12 lbs of clay, open studio time through August, and a student art show and open house in the gallery at the end of the session. Open to ages 13 and up.
Intermediate wheel with handbuilding elements
Mondays 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Summer session: July 5- August 16
Fall session: September 6- October 18
Instructed by clayspace artist Todd Hickerson, this seven week class uses slab and handforming techniques to alter and enhance thrown pieces. There is a strong focus on design as well as surface decoration and glazing. $195 per student includes 12 lbs of clay and open studio time during the session. Each session ends with a student art show and open house.
Introductory potter's wheel class
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 pm
Summer session: July 6- August 17
Fall session: September 7- October 19
This seven week introductory class taught by clayspace resident artist Todd Hickerson covers basic throwing and glazing techniques. Class time includes informal discussions, demonstrations and hands on instruction. $195 per person includes 16 pounds of clay and open studio time between classes to practice new skills. Each session concludes with a student gallery show, potluck party and raku firing.
Intermediate potter's wheel class
Wednesdays 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Summer session: July 7- August 18
Fall session: September 8-October 20
This seven week intermediate throwing class taught by resident artist Todd Hickerson offers an opportunity for more experienced students to improve and expand their skills. Todd provides project ideas and inspiration aong with excellent technical assistance. Class time includes informal discussions and demonstrations as well as hands on instruction. Students are encouraged to explore their interests and work at their own pace. $195 per person includes 12 pounds of clay and open studio time during the session. Each session concludes with a student art show and open house in the gallery.

Slab building
Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm

Fall session: September 9- October 21
This exciting seven week handbuilding class instructed by clayspace artist Todd Hickerson offers students an opportunity to design and construct boxes, platters, and large vessels with clay slabs. There is a strong emphasis on surface decoration using texture and colored slips as well as glazing and firing. $195 per student includes 12 lbs of clay and open studio time during the session. Each session concludes with a student show in the gallery and a class party with a raku kiln firing.
